Lupe Fiasco Wiki

The Soundclash (SNDCLSH) is a DJ duo helmed by longtime friends Lupe Fiasco and Sky Gellatly.
Their goals are twofold: to inject unique energy into the world of live DJ performance and to function as a nexus for music collaborations between bands, solo acts, and producers.

Website description

SNDCLSH (also known as The Soundclash) is an American music project between rapper Lupe Fiasco and DJ Sky Gellatly that experiments with genres within the electronic world, including dubstep, house, and dance. Cited influences include Daft Punk, Avicii, Diplo, and Nero.[1] They released their debut extended play (EP) Don't Drop the Flag in 2015, where all proceeds went towards charity.[2]

Fiasco has made it a point to differentiate the duo from his solo career, and told Hypebeast that he and Gellatly were longtime friends. When asked to DJ for an event in 2010, Fiasco realized it was fun and they decided to release music together as a side project. Fiasco explained their name, "literally two sides of sound or musical tastes coming together." The word was also used in the title of his song, "SNDCLSH in Vegas" (2011).

Background[]

When asked about their decision to work together, Fiasco informed Hypebeast:

I started DJing two years ago. I was invited by a company to come and DJ at some event. My first reaction was, "I don’t DJ." I never had at that point. However, they insisted and wanted me to play some music. As I was getting my playlist together, I realized, this was actually dope. I caught the bug right away. It was less about scratching the turntables with my elbows but I realized that I had a good ear for music selection. It got to the point that I joined forces with my partner Sky, who has been DJing for 15 years and having residencies at different places. He’s obviously more of a real DJ than I am. So me and him did a gig together and we noticed the chemistry between us and liked it a lot. We formed SNDCLSH and started to do gigs in Las Vegas and different places. The decision to do our music was more like a natural process. We started with remixes, collaborations with different DJs and producers. This was cool but the desire to come up with our own music got so big that we actually landed in the recording studio and started to create original music which will land on our Don’t Drop the Flag EP which will be out this year.[1]

SNDCLSH's first official musical release was on December 31, 2011, the remix to Fiasco's song "Letting Go" from his Lasers album.[3] This followed by working with DJ Kue to release a remix of The Pointer Sisters' 1983 song, "Automatic" (2012). The next singles, "Clocks" from their upcoming EP and collaboration with Rad Omen, "Leap of Faith," were released in November 2012.

Their sophomore single "Thieves" was released on April 30, 2013.

Their first extended play Don't Drop the Flag was released on December 23, 2015, where all proceeds were donated to charity in aid of youth.[2]
