Pharaoh Height 2/30 is a mixtape by American rapper Lupe Fiasco, self-released for free digital download on August 29, 2015. The title is a play on his Fahrenheit 1/15 mixtape series (being 2.0, considered the "sequel").[1][2] It was originally thought to be an extended play, since Fiasco announced he would no longer be releasing anymore mixtapes, though he retracted this statement and said Pharoah was his "last and final" one.[3]

The cover artwork features the pixelated funerary mask of King Tutankhamun, who was the last of his royal family to rule during the end of the 18th Dynasty. On Apple Music, there is a version entitled Lupe Pharaoh, with alternative artwork. It is only available in select regions outside of the United States and Canada, released through Dunridge Entertainment on December 11, 2015.

Background[]

On June 26, 2015, Fiasco released two photos to his Instagram account that revealed the cover art and the track listing.[4][5] On the bottom-right corner of the first image, it read 'CKDD,' which was of curiosity to a few fans. They found in another post that it was attributed to the following quote, "Upon his exodus from slavery he shall decorate the world with skulls in celebration and in true power," possibly a clue towards the unreleased project, Skulls.[6] (Though this is highly speculative, since Skulls is based on artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.)[7]

Two months later, Fiasco posted a link to the cloud service, Hightail, where the files were available for free download. Along with this, the track "In," previously unseen in the first track list version, was added. The tracks were also available on SoundCloud and DatPiff.

Critical reception[]

Justin Hunte of HipHopDX wrote, "[F]ollowing Lost in the Atlantic Ocean and Tetsuo & Youth, clearly Cornell Westside's patented simple-complexity approach is light years behind him. Now, largely it's just complex-complexity. And that's cool. Lupe Fiasco is still crafting fodder for future conversations."[8]
