"Out of My Head" is a song by American rapper Lupe Fiasco, released on May 22, 2011, as the third single from his third studio album, Lasers. The single features guest vocals from American R&B singer Trey Songz.[1] Fiasco explained of the track, "Doesn't have any deep meaning behind it, and is for the chicks." The duo performed it live at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.[2] It charted for seventeen weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #40.[3]
Background[]
The song first surfaced online alongside "I Don't Wanna Care Right Now" on February 28, 2011, ahead of Lasers' release. On May 24, 2011, the cover artwork was unveiled on his website.[4] It was released as a single on May 22, 2011, and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 11, 2011. Trey Songz said in a statement to MTV News that "Out of My Head" was "such a dope song" and one of his favorite collaborations. He added, "When Lupe first played the track for me I knew it was going to be a smash, and I'm happy it's been received so well."[5]
Music video[]
The official music video, directed by Gil Green, features Tracey Thomas as Fiasco's love interest. It premiered on June 29, 2011, by MTV.[6] The visual shows the rapper going about his day and seeing every woman reminding him of his girl. Despite an elderly woman thinking he was going to rob her, a dog peeing on his boot, and getting a ticket for jaywalking, he considered it a great day because he was thinking about her the entire time.[7]
Live performances[]
Fiasco performed the song in a myriad of concerts, including at Hot 93.7's Hot Jam 10 in 2011, Wango Tango in 2011, Firefly Music Festival in 2012, Last Night on the Town in 2022, and Sole DXB in 2023.
Critical reception[]
Todd Martens of Los Angeles Times described the track as "loaded with trendy synths and a pin-the-sympathy-on-the-song chorus from Trey Songz."[8] HipHopDX was equally unimpressed, writing, "lazily settles for a predictable performance with his lyricism acting as corroborating evidence."[9] Slant Magazine's Matthew Cole called it "a solid banger," though noted the irony of Songz's inclusion, as "he seems to incarnate Lupe's thesis that hip-hop radio provides materialistic escapism at the price of the listener's political consciousness."[10] IGN's Chad Grischow called it "a lively, lighthearted tune."[11]

Lyrics[]
[Intro: Lupe Fiasco]
And what we have here
Snoddy great, Trey
[Chorus: Trey Songz]
Girl, I want you to know
I can't get you out of my head, my head, my head
Girl, I want you to know
I don't even know what you did, you did you did, but I love it
[Verse 1: Lupe Fiasco]
Uh uh, everythin' hooks
Everythin' works, you're a real good chorus
I'm a real good verse, freestyle unrehearsed
So clean, no curse
And when the song's gone, man everythin' hurts
So I put it in reverse, go back to the scene where I seen you first
Yeah, I need you to sing that single again
Play that video I seen you up in
A hundred million spins in my mind all day
Callin' requests on the line always
Yeah, the president of your fan club
Leave them players all behind like a band love
[Chorus: Trey Songz, Lupe Fiasco]
Girl, I want you to know
I can't get you out of my head, my head, my head
(I can't get you out now) Girl, I want you to know
I don't even know what you did, you did you did, but I love it
[Verse 2: Lupe Fiasco]
Playa need a minute
Like a time out in tennis 'fore I finish
How'd I get in this, maybe 'was your hair, maybe 'was your flair
Maybe it's the heels and the way you wear
Maybe it's you're real and the way you care
You don't care if I'm ill or a millionaire
The only thing that matters that the feeling's there
Your smile's so bright it's like a grill's in there
High off life, don't need a pill in there, nah
You're killin' me, I think I need a will in here
Got me feelin' real skills impaired
Hard to describe why you're still in here
[Chorus: Trey Songz]
Girl, I want you to know
I can't get you out of my head, my head, my head
Girl, I want you to know
I don't even know what you did, you did you did, but I love it
[Bridge: Trey Songz, Lupe Fiasco]
Don't care what nobody say 'cause I like it girl
Might go crazy tryna figure this out, love
But I like it girl
Don't even know why I feel this way 'cause I like it girl
Caught up in something that I can't get out of
But we like it girl
C'mon
[Chorus: Trey Songz, Lupe Fiasco]
Girl, I want you to know
I can't get you out of my head, my head, my head
I can't get you out now, said, I can't get you out now
(I want you to know) Girl, I want you to know
I don't even know what you did, you did you did, but I love it
Girl, I want you to know, I want you to know
I can't get you out of my head, my head, my head
Lupe, Trey, yeah (I want you to know)
Girl, I want you to know
I don't even know what you did, you did you did, but I love it
Just making sure, I don't even know
[Outro: Lupe Fiasco, Trey Songz]
Lupe, Trey
I can't get you out of my head, my head
