"Indio" is a song by American rapper Lupe Fiasco, released to his YouTube channel on April 16, 2024. Its name is in reference to the festival Coachella, which is held annually in Indio, California. Two days before, Fiasco performed at the event's Heineken stage, where he declared to his audience that whoever wanted smoke with him, he would battle them.[1]

Background[]

Many media outlets reported Fiasco's "apology" to Kendrick Lamar, which he denied, along with supposed beef between them. In "Indio," he stated they "twist my words."[2]

In addition, the "Big 3" (Lamar, J. Cole, Drake) was subject to debate, where Lamar retorted for his feature on Metro Boomin and Future's "Like That" that he was the only top rapper and felt J. Cole and Drake were "sneak dissin'" him on "First Person Shooter". Drake had said in his line, 'Who the G.O.A.T.? Who you bitches really rooting for? / Like a kid that act bad from January to November, n*gga, it's just you and Cole.'[3] On April 5, 2024, J. Cole returned with a diss track, "7 Minute Drill," though apologized two days later live at Dreamville Fest, and requested peace with K. Dot.[4] Meanwhile, the AI track "Push Ups" was leaked online on April 16, 2024, that took shots at multiple individuals. This seemed to be a response on Drake's end, though its validity remains unknown.[5]

On April 15, 2024, in a Twitter Spaces debate with battle rapper Aye Verb, Fiasco publicly rooted for Drake, believing Drake to be a better rapper than Lamar. He explained, "Drake got bars, which you know. You know I ain't cappin' when I say that. So, I would give it to Drake. I think Kendrick's a better technically skilled performer, but I don't think he's a better rapper."[6] This also caused some fans to misquote, though Fiasco cleared up any misconstrued information in his own Spaces recording the following day.[7]

"Indio"

[Intro]
Yeah yeah, yeah
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh
Uh-uh, uh
Yeah

[Verse]
Blessings over blessings got they feelings mixed
N*ggas out here checking do you still exist
Single punches get a million clicks
Then the trunk is where my ceiling sits
Stripper women think I'm really callous
I stopped throwing money one night out in Dallas
I just wanna get up out of there
In the club playing solitaire
I ain't pretentious, I'm just past it
Wipe your pussy juice off of my pant's leg
Casualties of a lap dance
She dropped the bomb on me like the Gap Band
Happened out in Houston
Like Trae, they let the truth in
Naked yellow bone said her favorite song
Was "Sunshine," man I hope they play it for her
Gon' get a ho a record player to her
Drop the needle, dedicate it to her
Let it play 'til ain't no bars left
Cartier look like the ground around a car theft
"Gyalchester" in the aux cord
You're suggesting, that's what the suggestion box for
I take my wagyu on the top floor
Then I take it slow like I'ma Wock four
What's the point if we ain't poppin' off?
Gunshot residue, that shit ain't washing off
I ain't worried 'bout your top speed
Give you the Martin, want the Luther or the Lockheed?
I be chillin' 'cause I'm traumatized
Dropping riddles, fans tryna solve 'em like they homicides
Dealing with the villain in us
Media twist my words like Adrenaline Rush
Fuck it, gon' head n*gga, do ya thing
At the very least, at least the n*ggas knew your name
And they be coming out the woodwork
Telling wolves that a brick ain't how a wood work
Lowkey I been on a sweep
'Cause my predictions won't let me just go to sleep
Coachella next weekend going back to that
Ur wins backstage, coming back-to-back
I ain't at your table, I ain't relevant
Periodically I get up out your element
I was there but you ain't even know me though
Complex a part of my investment portfolio
So when you win then I win too
And I ain't even in what you into
Ten out of ten, I ain't intend to offend you
Tell my friends, "You ain't gotta defend what your friend do"
You're not my friend if my number not in your phone
Let me speak my peace and then get back to this warzone, yeah

[Outro: [?]]
You got what they want
Don't you ever doubt yourself young wise guy
From the West Side
They comin' after you
