Black Vietnam is an unreleased collaborative album by American rapper Lupe Fiasco and American record producer Symbolyc One (S1). It was confirmed in 2014, where Fiasco tweeted out on April 29, "#BlackVietnam @SymbolycOne & @LupeFiasco #TheAlbum." Followed by this days later were images to accompany the record's concept, depicting Anti-Vietnam War protests.[1][2] It was assumed to drop before his Tetsuo & Youth album, though remained in the archives. In one of the texts that S1 shared in an interview, it mentioned "Anatomy," which may have been a track.[3]
Background[]
Fiasco originally showed the concept of Black Vietnam to Kanye West, telling MTV News, "I was gonna give to Kanye but he didn't want it."[4]
S1 met Fiasco when working on the rapper's fifth studio album, Tetsuo & Youth. He sent over multiple beats, and Fiasco began recording over them. One day, Symbolyc reached out and texted that they should do an EP or album together. Fiasco said to call him as soon as possible, and they had around a two-hour conversation where they created a concept for the project. They took two album names to Twitter, between "Moma Boyz" and "Black Vietnam," where fans favored the latter.[5] S1 explained the title holds weight, with Vietnam as a whole, but it was the aspect of putting out music on the line, and what they represent with the music.[3]
